RSD vs. East Palmyra (Monday, Mar 31)
Record: 0 - 4

Another great match! The Wildcats put up a great fight to the end, but the opposing team proved too much for us.

PLAY OF THE DAY: It has to go to Trisha Sickler-Sherman for 2 reasons: (1)  for getting her serves in during the first 2 games, and for being the only one to do so! And (2) for the dirt on her uniform – she tries the hardest on the court to make sure that no ball touches the floor.

Stats for the game
Aces:
Unreturned serves: Summer Loucks, Christal Mitchell, Marissa Woodruff (1)
Assists: Summer Loucks (1)
Points from a hit: Summer Loucks (1)

RSD vs. Rochester Christian Academy (Wednesday, Mar 26)
Record: 0 - 3

What an improvement over last week's match! The Lady Wildcats played together and they played together well! There was a significant change in attitude as well as skill on the court yesterday. Summer Loucks made an awesome point off of a serve in Game 3 and followed that up with an ace after a long struggle in Games 1 and 2 to get the ball over the net. Klima Klimentyeva is mighty aggressive at the net and is proving to be an even better in a hitting position than setting. Trisha Sickler-Sherman got downright dirty making dives onto the floor in attempts to save a shanked ball. Ashley LaBarge has come a long way with a difficult skill in volleyball - knowing when a ball is yours and when to open up to a teammate - she's the first middle school player to perform this skill correctly! And Christal Mitchell is going to be a fierce competitor with her serves! Marissa Woodruff again proved her worth in the position of setter and does an excellent job both on and off the court supporting her team. Overall, it was a fun match, but I am most proud of the team for their positive attitudes despite some very tough opposing teams.

PLAY OF THE DAY: An attempted backset by Summer Loucks! (Don't try this one at home - it is HARD!)

Stats for the game
Aces: Christal Mitchell (2) Summer Loucks (1)
Unreturned serves: Christal Mitchell (7) Marissa Woodruff, Klima Klimentyeva (4) Ahsley LaBarge (3) Summer Loucks (1)
Assists: Marissa Woodruff (2) Summer Loucks (1)
Points from a hit: Summer Loucks (3) Christal Mitchell (2) Marissa Woodruff, Ashley LaBarge (1)

RSD vs. St Paul's (Wednesday, Mar 19)
Record: 0 - 2

I must say that I am torn sitting here trying to summarize yesterday's match against St. Paul's. I could give the usual play-by-play that led to a second loss for the team. I could focus on how Klimentina Klimentyeva came alive and became a very aggressive setter at the net or on Trisha Sickler-Sherman's awesome day serving, or Christal Mitchell's coming alive as a hitter up at the net. I could talk about Ashley LaBarge's awesome save in the first game, or Marissa Woodruff's assists and defensive game or Summer Louck's terrific drives in all 3 games. But to talk about those things would be to miss the real growth in the team yesterday...

It was a tough match. Saint Paul's has some great players and the coach's daughter has a mean serve! They're an experienced team and the Wildcats felt the pressure. By the end of game 1 the Wildcats were down but not out. In game 2 they began a comeback but fell into a negativity rut after 5 serves from St Paul's went unreturned. There were efforts made by a couple of leaders on the team to boost morale but RSD's spirits were broke. And at the end of the match a few tears were shed. But this is not the end of the story:

PLAY OF THE DAY: An apology made on the bus ride back for negative attitudes and the spontaneous promise that the team members made to each other to be positive and to support each other when they see someone sinking into negative thought. Two coaches couldn't be more proud.

Stats for the game
Aces: Trisha Sickler-Sherman (1) Ashley LaBarge (1)
Unreturned serves: Trisha Sickler-Sherman (3) Marissa Woodruff (2)
Assists: Marissa Woodruff (2) Klima Klimentyeva (1)
Points from a hit: Summer Loucks (2) Christal Mitchell (2)

RSD vs. Webster (Wednesday, Mar 12)
Record: 0 - 1

The Lady Wildcats took the court with a smile (and a couple of nervous laughs, too). The match started and the Wildcats looked good. It was a neck-and neck competition for most of the first game, but the more experienced Webster team proved too tough for us this time. There were some missed passes, missed serves, and a few missed opportunities, but as the match went on, the team fell into a groove and the groove headed toward higher and higher scores. (If only a volleyball match was best of 7!!) By the end of the match, Summer Loucks was diving on the floor like a pro, Trisha Sickler-Sherman had found her serve, Christal Mitchell mastered the rotation and had some great coverage, Klimentina Klimentyeva looked like she had been to way more than the 2 practices that she actually has come to, Ashley LaBarge's serves had become dreaded by the opposing team, and Marissa Woodruff proved her worth as the team's setter.

PLAY OF THE DAY: It was the third game. The ball was hit by Webster and came sailing over the net, someone hit the ball and it looked like we were definitely going to lose the point when from out of nowhere, Summer Louck's arms appeared under the ball for a save, which the team's setter Marissa Woodruff finished off with a dink over the net that found the floor for a point. What team work! The crowd went WILD!!!

Stats for the game
Aces: Ashley LaBarge (6) Marissa Woodruff(3) Christal Mitchell and Klimentina Klimentyeva (1)
Unreturned serves: Christal Mitchell (8) Ashley LaBarge (4) Trisha Sickler-Sherman, Summer Loucks, and Marissa Woodruff (2)

Points from a hit: Summer Loucks (1)
